Does anyone want to talk through this idea/pattern with me?

I love this pattern and it fits really well with my ethos

But as the pattern is £33.92 on eBay I thought I'd give it a go without

So the lower cut away pattern seems to imply that you cut along the quarter lines - so each front, sleeve, back, sleeve are 90 degrees? or do you thing the segment cut away is 10 degrees or more?

I am going to pin and drape it on my mannequin in the morning - but what do you think?

I think it's the armpits that worry me

Ooo thank you!!

on your the sleeves look fuller than a 1/4 of the tablecloth - maybe with the slither being part of the bodice 1/4?

Do you think a round neck or a more properly shaped one?

I'd go round neck with bias binding.

Looking/guessing at the measurements, the point of the triangle for the sleeve seems to be about half the distance between top fold and bottom edge. I think the length of the sleeve will depend on your bust measurement, and the fabric width.

You want the dress to skim over curves rather than cling and you need room to manoeuvre it over your shoulders and get your arms in as there's no back zip so you'll need to use your measurement, plus seam allowance, plus at a guess 2 or 3 inches. The dress form will help figure that out for sure.

So dependent on how big or small that is, the apex of the triangle for the underarm will move out or in so change the sleeve length.

Oh yes bias - satin I think

The outside edge if the cut looks to hit the centre of the circle (if extended) so the inner edge will be at an angle not a radius

At least I think so debating cutting a circle from polycotton....or just going for it!

I might tack the cutting lines and check I can get into it

Thanks so much I often used to chat these things through with my mum but I get a bit lost right now

Tacking it or at least pinning would be a good idea, that way you'll be able to check fit but also decide if you're happy with the width of the sleeve or want to widen the triangle to give a narrower sleeve and a fully a-line to the dress.

I like the idea of this pattern but think it would be a bit too short on me and too voluminous of sleeve. Might bit it a try with a longer rectangular piece though so I could extend the length to above knee (5ft 8). Just below elbow kimono sleeves and maybe a rounded v or a boat neck.

I think the one I am doing tomorrow might be a top rather than a dress, who know how it will turn out

I did this for my mum a while back I am wearing it (5 ft 5) and is is 5 ft 10! The tablecloth was a lilac rectangle but I curved the corners in and dyed it

Tablecloths are so cool!

So its bigger than me, about a size 20/22

So I need to think about using it differently for smaller sizes

The sleeves were too long too!

Not a disaster but not perfect- I put a slit and button at the back ro help getting in & I may re-do the arm pit as a point giant good I think a gentle curve might be more flattering
