Surgical Steel/Stainless Steel - jewellery making novice - Help!

My DD expressed an interest in making some earrings out of Fimo . I want to buy some earring stud blanks with the butterfly wing stoppers but I am overwhelmed at the different types out there.

I'm very sensitive to nickel myself so wanted to get something that said 'hypoallergenic'. Surgical steel is coming up often and some say they are 'Grade A' or 'Grade J' surgical steel but I can't find any explanation as to all the different grades.

I've found one supplier who can sell me 100 pairs of blank studs and backs for £2.99 - they say they are Grade A surgical steel and hypoallergenic but I'm suspicious. Isn't that awfully cheap?

So can anyone point me in the direction of a site that explains the different grades of surgical steel or, even better, give me some links or names of reputable, decent sellers? I'm trying to source stuff from UK suppliers and smaller suppliers if possible. I'm not just out to get the cheapest I can from China.

Oh and any pointers for good advice on Fimo will also be gratefully received!

Thanks!
