Would this be hard to sew?

Would something like this ve very difficult to make? I was thinking of using my DS’s fleece blanket to make a soft one. Standard Matalan fleece. How would I go about that or should I give up idea. No machine and very poor sewer but keen to give things a go. Thanks

The hardest bit will be getting the cord through for the closure.

Cut out a circle.
Turn over a hem 1-2 inches.
Use a running stitch or a whip stitch by hand. The fleece shouldnt fray too much. If it does fray then either do a double hem or seal with fray stop .
Leave 2 gaps approx 2" on opposite sides of the circle.
Thread through cord/laces/parachute cord using a bodkin or safety pin - do this twice.
Knot them off.
Done.

Insert the cord into the edge while you are stitching the channel around the edge. Just lay it along the edge as you sew. You will not have to thread it through then. Otherwise, looks quite simple - a good idea, will help to cut out all that awful noise that Lego makes!

Oh thank you both so much. I think I’ll give it a go. Yes the Lego noise is horrible and I’m fed up finding pieces in my carpets. I thought the fleece blanket would make it all softer. Thanks.

I’ve seen sew your own versions on Pinterest.

I think it would be really tedious to sew by hand due to the size. I don't think it's just a circle as it has a "lip" round it that stops the toys straying off the mat.

A new-sew option (with no lip) would be to use large eyelets like this www.amazon.co.uk/SurePromise-Plastic-Curtain-Drapery-Grommets/dp/B01N8VSLKV/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=eyelets&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1593267703&sr=8-8 but this would represent a choking hazard plus the risk from the drawstring.

Some more thought needed then especially as I am very very much a beginner sewer. I’ll check out Pinterest too thanks

I made one (not exactly the same but similar) it was really easy, but would take ages and be really boring to do it by hand. Ask around, I bet someone you know has an old machine sitting unused somewhere that you can borrow.
