Help with buying yarn please!

My DH has said that he'll buy me any yarn of my choice. I have coveted a Caron cake for ages and want to make a blanket to snuggle under on the sofa. I was looking at these two. A 200g Caron Cake in Aran and a 280g Bernat Pop in Super Chunky.

How many do you think I'd meed to make a decent sized sofa blanket please? I'm used to predominantly working in DK.

Knit or crochet?

I think you’d need 6 or 7 balls of the Caron yarn for a knitted blanket, not sure about the other as I don’t tend to use super chunky. Depends on your needles and tension (as ever).

For crochet, I’m currently working on a sofa blanket in Paintbox Chunky Pots (so between your two yarn weights) and that will take 3 balls of 200g with a 6mm hook.
