Rock Sealing

I've made my dad some herb rocks for Father's Day using sharpies. I've just sprayed with a spray gloss and it's bled straight away. Any recommendations on how I could seal them? Thinking my mistake is using sharpies but I don't want to have to do them again if I can help it

I think that once you've sprayed them that's it. You'll probably have to do them again. Do you think you held the can far enough away when you sprayed? I find 2 thin coats work best. I also use Posca pens - they don't run or fade.

Sorry I should have said these are the unsprayed ones. I only did one to see how it came out and glad I did now!

A solvent in the spray must be dissolving the Sharpie ink. You could try sealing with something like Liquitex acrylic primer first. Perhaps paint a few more rocks just for experimenting.
