Not sure, but you may find help on this site. Their glossary has various terms, not identical to yours, but a couple seem similar.

i think it means knit front purl back (kfpb) and purl front knit back (pfkb)

so:

kfpb: start knitting into the front of the next stitch as normal, AND purl into the back of the same stitch. so you've created two stitches out of one.

similarly

pfkb start purling into the next stitch as per normal and knit into the back of the same stitch.

hope that helps (and that i'm on the right track)

some context would make it easier to work out.

thanks both of you

right its for a base of a bag the intructions read
(rs) p1,kfpb,kfpb,(k1,p1) 10 times k1,pfkb,pfkb,p1,kfpb,kfpb,k1(p1,k1) 10 times
pfkb,pfkb,p1,k1

i think its a way of increasing ????

will try site as well thanx

yes it is a way of increasing.

(rs) p1,kfpb,kfpb,(k1,p1) 10 times k1,pfkb,pfkb,p1,kfpb,kfpb,k1(p1,k1) 10 times
pfkb,pfkb,p1,k1

so:

on right side (rs)

  • purl 1 knit into front and purl into back of next stitch knit 1
  • purl 1 repeat from * * a further 9 times then knit 1 purl into front and knit into back of next stitch purl into front and knit into back of next stitch purl one knit into front and purl into back of next stitch etc

just take it slowly, stitch by stitch.
