what am I doing wrong, crochet rainbow shape

I'm following a rainbow crochet pattern, checked and double checked my stitches but it doesn't curve round so the layers end at the same point, its getting narrower if that makes sense, see pic.

What am I missing? Any tips?

There aren't enough increases in there I think. As a rough guess, the first row would be 6 TC, the second would have 2 TC in each stitch, the third would have 1 TC then 2TC in the next stitch (repeat round).

At least that's what I would do with DC (U.K. terminology used throughout!

What does the pattern say?

SoupDragon · 26/05/2020 13:54

You're basically aiming for a half circle rather than an arch, yes?

Wale90 · 26/05/2020 15:30

You can just see the rainbow from the pattern in the page in the picture its a perfect semi circle. I've followed the first 9 rows perfectly but maybe I'll add in a few extra increases and see how it looks.

So frustrating when I just can't get mine to match the pattern Angry

Is the pattern US or UK terms? Are you definitely doing the right stitch?

OneJump · 26/05/2020 20:55

It's a bit hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like you might be doing trebles when you should be doing double crochets (UK terms)? I've done this before many times!

Is the pattern in US terms?

Wale90 · 27/05/2020 07:41

@onejump yup that's exactly what I did!

All corrected now Grin

I can see the pattern very clearly but It looks to me that the pattern is single crochet (American) Double crochet English and you are making it with trebles.

Start again with double crocket and see if it works

FLOrenze · 27/05/2020 07:46

Can’t see

FLOrenze · 27/05/2020 07:48

Sorry just seen someone else said the same.

I've made a few crochet rainbows, although not this pattern.

They have all been made as a circle which is then folded in half and the outer edge sewn together to make a semi-circle.

I think because the pattern begins with 6 stitches in a magic ring that this is also the case for this pattern?

Admittedly the pattern doesn't make that explicitly clear at the start..

So, in UK terms it would be 6 double crochets into the magic ring, pull the ring tight and then slip stitch into the top of the first chain (the chain that you did before your very first DC into the ring.
