Was going to do boring old round one and went to icing shop this morning. They had an oval tin, 1.50 to hire, so got it. They also do ready to roll icing in every colour.

Made the template for the black bit, by folding a bit of card in half and cutting out blah blah blah. I am sooooooo pleased with it. Last years attempt was a complete cockup as I tried to do a football pitch and made my own icing. It was f**king awful and the icing dripped everywhere. I ended up sprinkling 100 & 1000's all over it and calling it a birthday explosion

Do you know they charge 45.00 for this cake in the shop. I made the first one (yes you did read it right) and didn't leave it in long enough and when I turned it out, the bottom caved into the still liquid mixture , so I decided the next one would be chocolate and phoned the icing shop to find out how long to leave it in etc. It is a 12 12 6 cake. So gas 3 for 1.5 hours instead of gas 4 for forty mins as I did

I put green food colouring in the buttercream filling, so it's really groovy on the inside as well.

YES YES it's a power ranger cake. I am so glad you knew what it was.

And the board is my small craft cutting board covered in foil. Sorry to go on, but I am so pleased with it.

Don't apologise. I was pleased as punch with my first (and last I think) effort at a birthday cake and boasted everywhere (apart from here but wasn't on MN then and would have done if I was).

Well, the party is on Sunday.I am doing a make & take type thing. They get to paint a wooden helicopter, so thats the toy for the party bag. Plus a bit o cake and a sweet. We will, of course be doing the pass parcel and pin tail on the donkey type things as well.
