Newbie here

When you wind floss onto bobbins, how do you keep track of the colour number? Should I be keeping the little paper some where or writing it on the bobbin?

I'm confused. Why are you winding it onto bobbins?

When I've not used all the strands when I've cut some to work with, I'm winding the extra? Agh what am I doing wrong? 😂

I use these and just write the number on it.

I store them in one of these boxes. I have several one for the cross stitch i'm doing and a couple spare ones which I keep leftover cottons in.

Do you mean the wee cardboard yokes for organising your threads? I just write the number on the cardboard. I then place them in numerical order with the number facing up so I can easily find the one I'm looking for.

Cross post - exactly what @Clutterbugsmum does.

Ah thank you, I'll write the number then. It just seemed like it would rub off so I was unsure if there was a different way I should be doing.

I don't wind it on to bobbins lazy

For wool I get a piece of card, use a hole punch to punch holes all down the side and thread short pieces of thread through each one.

I then just label each one on the piece of card. Job done.

If I'm using silk floss or stranded cotton I won't bother doing that -even lazier-- If you pull the thread out correctly from the skein it shouldn't shrivel up into a mess. I then cut the thread, split it and then wind the unused bit back round the middle of the skein where it will stay quite happily and I can still see the number.

Have done this even when using projects with upwards of 50 colours. Am too idle to wind onto bobbins. Plus my mum never taught me that Smile

Thank you @AnnaMagnani I'll keep that in mind when I get to bigger projects!
