Help an actual crochet idiot? Please??!

I'm not usually utterly incompetent. I can knit, I can sew by hand and with machine, I can cross stitch... but MY WORD can I not crochet.

I have tried several times, but I cannot understand it at all.

Please help me out! In my ideal world I'd be able to neatly crochet blankets, baby hats and soft toys. That's the end goal. Not fussed about clothing or fancy stitches, mainly just neat looking, uniform stitches. At the moment I can't even figure out a simple flat square. It always looks ratty.

Any you tube videos or websites that are good for idiots? As in actual idiots. Or free patterns that are fool-proof? I need a confidence boost to get me back into it! Many thanks!

Bella Coco videos got me crocheting - she’s great, easy to follow and takes everything step by step.

I recommend Bella Coco too. I've just started to crochet during lockdown and her videos are the only ones I can follow.

Hardest part is getting your tension even and not missing stitches at the end of the row. Make sure you always mark your first and last stitch to avoid uneven edges.

I learned from Bella Coco too. It's worth mentioning that you can slow down the video speed!

I learnt from a small book called "crochet unravelled". I followed it up to Treble Crochet and then I made a giant granny square blanket which was just loads of treble crochet and chains. This really helped my rhythm and getting used to how I wanted to hold the hook and yarn.
