Help! Any sewing machine specialists around?

I managed to break the needle on my Bernina just now, and I think it must have slammed into the hook, because there's now a tiny, rough-edged crater near the tip of the hook. It was pristine earlier today when I cleaned and oiled it.

Can I file this down? I have a good carborundum stone with a very fine side.

Or does Bernie have to go into self-isolation until lockdown is lifted? Sad

You've nothing to lose by gently filing it, I suppose, if no sewing is the alternative. That sounds expensive...

Lots of stuff online about sanding down Singer hooks, but haven't found anything about sanding Bernina hooks. Might have to take the risk. If it doesn't work I'm no worse off.

My stone isn't fine enough. I've filed away the burr, but cannot polish the surface. Hope it'll do until the service place opens again.
