If anyone has learnt this from YouTube or video tutorials, please could you direct me to the best sites as so far I'm confusing myself as there seem to be so many. I'd just like an idiot proof guide to the basics if possible.

Do you mean you need to learn how to crochet or can you already crochet but want to make amigurumi toys?

Redstorm2807 · 12/04/2020 16:28

You need to be really careful as English and US crochet stitches are not the same! Very frustrating but just make sure you know if it's US or UK pattern - there are various conversion lists easily available online.

This book really helped me: Amigurumi World

It has really easy explanations and I made a few things quite successfully from it.

I agree. Luckily, most amigurumi things are made in double crochet (U.K.) which is Single crochet in US - as there is no SC in U.K. terms it's easy to tell! Looking for SC is my first check I'd I don't know which a pattern is.

Get a stitch marker (a safety pin will do) and check your stitch count after every row. Might just be me, but I appear to be incapable of concentrating for an entire row and frequently have to go back to the start - much easier if you only have to frog a row at a time!
