Did it!!! Did it!! I can report it's really easy once you get the hang of it. Pathetically pleased with myself. I can feel an afghan coming on.

Doesn't it make a gorgeous fabric? Where did you get the needles from? What are you gonna make?

I got some cheapy chunky plastic ones off ebay & am making the ribbed scarf in the pattern booklet with some sirdar denim ultra that I got from an MNer - it's 160 stitches but only 4 rows so shouldn't take too long

Oh, it does, I'm very impressed. Got my needles off ebay too, want to make a couple of afghan throws, just experimenting with different wools at the moment to see what looks good and what doesn't. Like the idea of a scarf too, am finding it highly addictive at the moment and can't put the bloody needles down!!

Hmm - have just spotted a reference to cro-hook which is apparently tunisian crochet using 2 colours of yarn & a double-ended hook. It appears to give you a fabric which is more or less a different colour on either side. Looks rather intriguing . . .

GreebosWhiskers · 05/09/2007 14:12

Oops - meant to put a link in there

dressedupnowheretogo · 05/09/2007 14:13

my friend jst gave me a retro book of patterns which has tunisian crochet in

pray tell me more any piccy's

rantinghousewife · 05/09/2007 20:00

That looks intriguing GW, going to bookmark that and have a look.
Dressedup, tunisian crochet is also called Afghan crochet and uses a long hook like a cross between a knitting needle and a crochet hook this on the right
Ill post a pick of a swatch on my profile, so you can have a look, basically you chain the required number of links and then do a foundation row, which works chains onto the hook and then you 'work' them off again. Lot simpler than it sounds. (Am not very good at describing, sorry)

And for some reason that link doesn't work, try this
