Crocheted a baby hat - looking for next project

I crocheted an earflap hat for my 5 month grandchild and it turned out OK. 😁
I had the wrong yarn so needed to unravel it and when I followed the instructions for a toddler it was the right size!

I would like to try a cardigan but it needs to be 'modern' to suit my daughters tastes!
For a girl. I bought some cream aran wool which I can use, thought I would be able to find a pattern I liked free online like I did for the hat.( It doesn't have to be free)
I can't find anything!
Do I need to try and knit to get a nice one?

Have you discovered Ravelry yet?

If you type in baby cardigan you get 1000+ results. You can then filter by craft (crochet), availability (free) and weight (aran) to give a manageable number of options to scroll through.

I quite liked "Single Crochet Baby Sweater" - the photo shows a pink cardigan with a hood or the "Sweet Shell Cardigan".

Just be aware that patterns may be written in either US or UK terminology.

Thank you! @thewoolybackswife I like both of those.
Can I ask - if the first is just for 3-6 months, would you suggest just adding a bit more to length and width to make it bigger?
Is it that simple?

Unfortunately I don't think it is that simple as you would have to keep accommodating your extra width stitches into the pattern when working the shapings.

However, you could try working a few inches of the pattern as it is written to see how wide it is compared to your grandchild's chest size. Many patterns are written to give a loose fit so could be worn by an older child if it was long enough (there should be no problem making it longer but you may need to work an extra button hole or make it a standard zip length if that's how you want it to close)
