Knitting yarn and craft in America?

Heading to America this summer for three weeks, going to be in Florida, mostly Orlando but briefly in Miami. Last time we were there I got some yarn from Walmart which was OK but not "great" - cheap as chips but aran weight and acrylic.

Can anyone recommend brands to look out for? Preferably DK or thinner. i'm not a fan of chunky yarn. Are the large craft superstores like Michael's/Joanne's any good or do I need to hunt out the small independents?

I don't know, but Ravelry might be a better place to ask than here. I do know that yarn weights are named differently and needle sizes are different so it would be a good idea to find out about that before you go.

In terms of which shops, surely the answer is always "All of them!"?

Have just established with DH that i'm insured for the rental car as well as him, so can have a happy afternoon to myself trawling the yarn/craft shops while the rest of them splash in the pool.

If you join The Crochet Crowd Stitch Social group on FB and ask about yarn shops in the area you’ll get loads of replies :)
