Selling crafts online

Sporty99 · 24/01/2020 13:49

I make hand painted silk scarves, glass jewellery and cushion covers.

I've been dreaming for ages that I could set up a small business selling them online, but I keep talking myself out of it saying it's a silly pipe dream and people don't really make any money doing it.

Am I wrong? Has anyone out there set up a small craft bus online and actually made regular money?

@Sporty99 It's not a silly pipe dream at all. But it's not going to be easy. Have a look at Etsy as your items are handmade and once there, consider selling worldwide. You will need to learn about the SEO (search engine optimisation) and have really good photos of your items but once you are there you can make a very good money.

I have an Etsy shop myself, have had nearly 4 years and it has been really rewarding. Certainly hard work at times but my turn over is approx £1200 per month. Christmas is a crazy period and last two years I've made £9000 in November alone.

I suggest joining some Etsy groups on FB, Etsy Sellers Help Group is very good for instance.

Hi @Igavebirthtoabanana I wonder if you could share the sector you sell in as this has been a goal if mine for some time and it's always good to know success stories

@Trexical I make personalised gifts and home decor items. I am really a small fish there. Bridal and Wedding item shops are probably the most lucrative. I know sellers who make five figures every month.
