Hi Loopyredangel,

Your Scotty is finished and here in my profile

I have made a red felt applique with button detail as I couldn't get a nice enough red crochet flower. I hope this is OK.

Photobucket is unavailable due to maintenence so if you'd like to see a bigger image I can email it to you.

Let me know if he/ she is OK. My email address is

I sneeked a peek and he's lovely !!

Gingermonkey · 30/08/2007 16:13

I think he's fab!!!! How are you doing with your dogsies?

Tillyboo · 30/08/2007 16:41

Hello & Thank-you !!!

I'm trying to get some advertising sorted at the moment so I haven't gone 'Live' if you like yet.

I've done a couple of dogs to order and got another two to do so it's been quite promising seeing as no-one but my family & friends (Oh, and a couple of MNetters ) know I'm doing this yet.

Sooooooo, I'm open for orders

I'm preparing for my craft fairs and just found out that the big one I thought was happening at the end of Sept is now in fact November (to incorporate Xmas gifts) so that gives me loads of time to use up my big stash of fab fabrics I bought in Cornwall last week.

I'm working on a Spaniel now so watch this space as I'll be posting a piccy and asking for either a thumbs up or down. I've also drawn up sketches of a 'Baggy Bird'.

GM - how's your wholesale order going ? Have you managed to get through it yet ?
If you don't mind me asking, are you supplying them as 'sale or return' or are the outlets actually buying them from you?

I saw a thread the other day about selling handcrafted stuff and it gave loads of advice & the the things to watch out for etc. I'll have to find it again and read through it properly as it looked very helpful.

I'm selling them to the shop, and they are paying me just under what I sell them for on etsy (as I think they are underpriced really). Her intention is to sell them at closer to £20 each (once I get the cash I don't care!!!!!!) I have almost finished, just have the bunnies to do. I've just been really busy with real life this week and trying to promote the etsy shop a bit more. I am doing some craft markets in Leeds oct, nov and dec so I want to get some bits done for them too. I just ordered a whole stash of fabric from ebay.com (which makes it so much cheaper than getting it from ebay.co.uk)
I just can't wait for DD to go back to school because she is really getting on my nerves now!!! (end of the holidays boredom has set in and she won't let me get on with sewing)

Gingermonkey · 30/08/2007 17:56

what kind of advertising are you going to do? I keep thinking about it and not really knowing which route to go down. What do you think gets the most return for the least money?

Tillyboo · 30/08/2007 19:08

I'm not sure what the best route is but I'm doing some advertising leaflets to begin with.

I have a lovely interiors and garden shop local to me who is selling some of my photographic greeting cards and although the owner doesn't want to venture into my animals she loved them and said she'd advertise them for me in her shop. She also said she'd have a couple to display in the shop for me too which is very kind of her.

There are also a few publications that I may try (depending on cost of advertising). Berkshire Life is one and 'Families' magazine is another. The 'Families' magazine do showcases for mums starting up in business. I'd be lucky to get a slot but if you don't try ....

Another idea is to have some business cards & leaflets for people to pick up on your craft stand and at craft fairs etc.

You could also try putting some advertising up in places like soft play, playgroup centres etc. Anywhere where your audience base congregates really.

My dh works for a design agency and although he isn't a creative he say's a website is a must. But you are using Etsy so that's a good option. You could direct your customers to your Etsy page on your advertising leaflets.

But, like you say, with children around it's difficult to get on and concentrate. My dd is 3.5 years old and is just starting to get bored, Kindergarden beckons ....

Yes, your ideas are pretty much the same as mine. We have a local free mag that is quite good so I am going to look into that as well as the Yorkshire magazine (but I think it's quite expensive).

I am going to set up a website using Mr.Site, it's cheap and I have seen some really nice ones done that way. It's a website in a box basically.

It's all so complicated isn't it? I was never thinking of becoming a business woman but I am learning! Have you seen Moo.com? I have ordered some cards from there, the quality is fab, thick thick card almost like plastic and they are tiny...really cute. £10 for 100, you have a photo on one side and print on the other. They do stickers too.

Tillyboo · 31/08/2007 14:11

Ooh, just looked at Moo.com and it looks great.

What a good idea for little business/ reminder cards, I will order some when I have done a few more animals - I just need to do a few more different colourways and designs before I do.

You can put one in with someone's order when you post it.

I've just finished a dog that I used some more of my Cornish fabric on. It's very jolly and colourful here

.... Must finish my Spaniel, but I can't quite get the shape right at the moment.

Looks great! I am still very much in love with Mr. Sausage, although he has gone to a new home.....my best friend's dog died recently and she is pregnant, and is very, very sad about everything (I think she's scared and misses her doggy) so this weekend I took Mr.Sausage to live with her (and made her day - she is over the moon!)

I'll let you know how my moo cards are when they arrive!

Tillyboo · 02/09/2007 18:06

Thanks Gingermonkey !
I'm so glad your friend liked Mr Sausage, I hope she is feeling better. When you lose a pet it's incredibly hard, I've been through it several times and you never quite get over it. But she has a little one on the way so hopefully that'll give her something to focus on.

A friend and I are off to the NEC Autumn Fair tomorrow as we are thinking up setting up a business together selling quality and unique gifts, childrens clothing, knitted & crochet items, toys etc. - but all hand-made stuff, nothing mass produced from anywhere near China !

I have a clear idea of what sort of stuff I'm looking for so I am very excited.

Haven't done any making today as we've been gardening most of the day ... and I'm knackered !!!!

slight hijack here:

Tilly: I do crocheted flowers if you want some. I'll try to put a pic up in the profile tonight so you can see if you like 'em.

Gingermonkey: has boo arrived yet? I sent him Thursday. (and have proof so the b*stards at royal mail better get him there!!)

purplemonkeydishwasher · 02/09/2007 18:24

loopyredangel · 02/09/2007 19:27

Sorry not been on for a few days, had to organise my DS's 2nd birthday, now recovering from it today! Absolutely shattered and very sore, so having a rest. Scotty is soooooooooooooooo cute, will email you to sort out payment later this evening, I am on my MIL's computer at the moment! Can't wait to get him. THank you soooooo much xxx

Tillyboo · 02/09/2007 20:57

Hello ...

Loopy - Childrens b'days Hmmm, so much work and it takes about a week to recover, I know exactly how you feel. Get the Wine bottle out, put yer feet up with a glass and bar of chocolate and don't move for at least 4hrs. Ah, heaven ....

Really pleased you like your Scotty. I have lined him as the fabric was more delicate than the other Scotty's I have made.

My mum wanted him but I told her 'Hands Off, he's taken'.

Purple Monkey - thanks so much for the pics and the offer. I will definitely keep you in mind but I want to have a go myself first (when I get round to it). If I make a real pigs ear out of it (which is highly likely) I shall be touch pronto

monkey, yes, he arrived fri morning (I chased the posty in the car coz I was on my way down south for the weekend!). He was supposed to be for ds, but dd (8yrs old!!!!) has claimed him as her own, and he is gorgeous! I love him (she does even more, poor ds didn't even get a cuddle).
I only got home this afternoon so didn't get a chance to say thank you before

purplemonkeydishwasher · 03/09/2007 07:33

Oh I'm so glad!!

loopyredangel · 03/09/2007 19:18

Wish I could have a nice glass of wine - being 7 months pregnant is putting the blocks on that!

loopyredangel · 03/09/2007 19:30

Have finally got around to emailing you tillyboo x

Gingermonkey · 04/09/2007 23:25

loopyredangel · 05/09/2007 21:34

Tillyboo · 05/09/2007 21:48

Ooh, I'm chuffed to bits as I've just sold another dogsy today.

Tillyboo, having trouble locating my chequebook at the mo, have ordered another one, should get it in a week or 2!!!! Would a postal order be okay, can get that in the morning and post it straight to you x

Tillyboo · 05/09/2007 22:13

Hi Loopy,

There's no rush on my part, if you want to wait until you get your cheque book I can post your Scotty when I get back from hol on the 14th Sept.

That OK ?

loopyredangel · 05/09/2007 22:16

I just want to make sure it arrives in time for birthday, thought it might be wise for me to send you a postal order just to make sure I get it on time. Sorry if I am being a pain, I have to go to the Post Office in the morning anyway so I thought I could kill 2 birds with one stone x

Tillyboo · 05/09/2007 22:32

Loopy, don't be daft, it's really no problem.

I'll post her on my way back from picking dd up from pre-school in the afternoon as I am out in the morning.

I hope you like her ! I may have access to the internet where we are going (Fowey), so please let me know when she arrives safely
