upholstery fabric buying in London

Does anyone have any recommendations for where to buy tapestry or damask upholstery fabric around London, please?

I've looked at a couple of online shops, but since this is quite an expensive project I'd really be much more comfortable being able to handle the material before buying.

I've tried John Lewis & Dunelm nothing suitable there. I'm wondering if there are independent shops that might be better.

Thanks for any advice!

As a guide, I love lots of Liberty's fabrics. If there's anywhere that does similar designs without the Liberty price tag, that would be ideal.

I don’t particularly recall tapestry or damask at Liberty? Amazing floral velvets though.

Colefax and fowler do a huge January sale, other brands I assume in the same stable are also there- manuel canovas etc. They will be a range of modern usuals, I don’t recall anything as heavy as tapestry or damask but amazing prices. Google should show when and where, I can’t remember but a town hall type place central London ish.

Oh and house of hackney? Dark ornamental modern, think foliage and animals.

Thank you timeisnotaline, I'll look it up.

I got some samples delivered from Dalston Mills, mentioned upthread, and have narrowed them down to a few I want to go and see.

No, Liberty don't do the fabric I need for this, but I like their patterns is what I meant. Sorry, should have been clearer.

Assuming you havent already found what you need, the London fabric company on Wilcox road near Vauxhall are amazing. Also has a workshop next door where they do upholstery/curtain making.
You'd be better to go and look in person as the website isn't particularly good, but the assistants are really knowledgeable and helpful. I've bought lots of upholstery fabrics from there - ranging from relatively cheap to expensive tapestry-type stuff.
Chelsea harbour also has a few very very expensive showrooms with beautiful fabrics but way out of my budget!
