DS11yo loves art and craft things, but its just something he does for enjoyment and relaxation. He isn't talented or skillful, he just enjoys it.

I am thinking of putting together a set of everything you need to do rock painting for him for Christmas. I have on my list the rocks, pens to decorate, lacquer and a book of ideas.

Which pens would you recommend please? I would like to get ones that work well, but they don't have to be what professionals would use as this is just a lovely pastime for him. Ideally a set of at least 12 colours too. These have great reviews, but a recommendation is always good.

Thanks!

Can I bump this for you. Funnily enough I was thinking of buying those exact pens. I’m a beginner and was looking for something that I could try that didn’t cost too much and actually worked

Thank you. I did a lot of googling and bought the Posca ones. Hey were recommended on lots of sites. I’ve probably paid over the odds and a cheaper brand would have been just as good for what I wanted from it. But still. Nice to have ticked that Christmas present off the list!

Range sell a bag of responsibly sourced rocks (not nicked from a random riverbed) for around £5. Its addictive!

There are FB groups (depending on his age) which do rock hiding. You leave a painted rock in a park or other public place, the finder takes a photo and posts on the group.
