Sewing machine that does embroidery - anyone got one??

As the title says - I have really got into sewing recently and would love to do some embroidery with a machine - but I am completely clueless!

What machine would have you got, are you happy with it or do you wish you got another one?

Easy to use?

What kind of machine embroidery do you want to do? Is it the free motion kind, where you drop the feed dogs and move the fabric around under the needle, or the kind where you sew as normal and the machine produces lines of patterns, or do you mean a full-on (expensive!) computerised embroidery machine?

I have one that does both sewing and basic embroidery. It's a popular brand that starts with a J. Not sure if I can give the exact model without breaking guidelines? Confused I bought my machine at a shop in London that gave a free course on how to use the machine so you might look for something like that when purchasing. Lots of videos on youtube if you want to look at specific brands and what certain models can or can not do.

I've just bought one.

Even using it as a sewing machine is a bit intimidating so I"m hot footing it off to my free course at the dealers as soon as possible....

For my machine there are a tonne of youtube tutorials - might be worth searching by model number.

I had one and I hated the bloody thing. It was bought to do a specific kind of embroidery as at the time I did a lot of it by hand and thought it might make my life (and my tendonitis) easier. It was a spectacularly expensive gift and it routinely broke down, ate itself, tangled its threads, buggered up its tension if you looked at it cross-eyed, and I eventually gave it away as it completely failed to live up to any kind of expectation. It was a Male Sibling one, though, not the one that begins with J....
