How do I make a pom pom tight?

Any tips for the perfect pom pom?

How can I make the pom pom tight in the middle? Is it usual to lose some strands of wool. I am struggling , I keep on breaking the wool when trying to get it tight!

Should I be using wool to tighten it or something else?

Use the same wool but triple thickness perhaps?

Are you using two discs of cardboard or a plastic pom pom maker? I take a longish strand of wool and wind it around the middle 4 or 5 times tight and then knot the ends together. If you haven't discovered the plastic makers they are great.

Ok - worth a try, in the past have used double thickness. Thanks
