I have been looking at the various properties of gemstones with the idea of making well-being necklaces. I have made 2 up (roughly!) to see what people think

this one is sodalite & rose quartz
(encourages peace + contentment and love + friendship)

and this one is Rose quartz, amethyst + green turquoise
(love + friendship, spiritual calm + healing,strengthens + protects)

Is the one in the first link too chunky do you think? I want to keep the necklaces pretty simple but could thread on ribbon or coloured suede - just wondered what people thought of the general idea All comments welcome Ta !

oh & do people prefer the rough chunky nuggets in the first link or the more sculpted shapes eg the hearts in the 2nd

don't think they're too chunky - just not what i'd choose

but the creamy shell bracelet is really lovely - would look so good on a tanned wrist on holiday

think the mix of shapes and sizes (i.e. the second one) works better

I liked them both, think they would have general appeal

Whizzz · 05/07/2007 19:14

LOL Dior - didn't want to get done by Christian for copyright

Thanks - keep the comments coming

It depends what you mean by chunky!! The stones in either don't look huge. I don't like the colour of the green heart so that would put me off.

Whizzz · 05/07/2007 22:16

The 'chunky' nuggets are about 18mm long

I have lots of this lovely stuff coming my way soon. Yipee.................

VeniVidiVickiQV · 06/07/2007 21:10

i LOVE this one whizzzz

VeniVidiVickiQV · 06/07/2007 21:14

Whizzz, tbh, I think they are too 'clumsy' for want of a better word. When you said are they too 'chunky' I wasnt expecting a chunk of stone on the end of string. I was thinking lots of smaller beads of quartz, turquoise etc.

Gosh that sounds really harsh but i hope you know what i mean....

mistypeaks · 06/07/2007 21:20

i love that one too.

funkimummy · 06/07/2007 21:40

Hey Whizzz,

Sorry, I don't like to be contentious!

I run a jewellery business, and if I'm honest, it's not necessarily the sort of thing my lady clients would go for.

In agreement with everyone else really. Have you perhaps thought about adding ribbons and laying the stones out in a slightly different way across the breadth of the necklace. Also perhaps using smaller stones?

Don't hang me please! Just thought I'd offer my opinion.

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 06/07/2007 21:57

Qv

That is one of the ones, I have ordered.

funkimummy · 06/07/2007 21:59

Well then we expect you be content and peaceful and loving or loving/friendly/calm/healing and protecting whilst wearing it

prfer teh second one with the daintier stones - hard to work out a scale but look lovely.

Agree may be better to space them a bit.

Think it is a wonderful idea though - would you do customised ones?

Whizzz · 07/07/2007 10:46

Thanks for all your comments The range of verdicts was just what I was after.
To be honest, when I ordered the stones online it's hard to see / feel what they look like in real life. My other option is using gemstone chips - as they are much more dainty. I like the idea of using them on memory wire bracelets for example. What I could also do is the lariat style necklaces using smaller stones & beads (or maybe just stones ?)
BBBee, I am always happy to make something customised for someone

gemstone chips sounds like a great idea, and will appeal to the 'masses'!

Stones on their own make for a much classier necklace IMO, it is just an opinion though!

Whizzz · 07/07/2007 13:35

Cheers - I am pondering making more 'normal' necklaces with them & making the chunks a feature as a dropper
Maybe with future jewellery, we can all play 'Spot the Chunks' !!!!
