Any good learn to crochet books?

I fancy learning how to crochet.

I've looked at books in the shops and online but there are just too many.
Are there any guides or books that Mumsnetters would recommend?

DD looking for ideas for my xmas present and I thought this would be ideal.

I think you're better off learning from either a YouTube video or a class in a yarn shop. Books are difficult to follow for beginners.

Maybe you could have a crochet lesson as a present?

Bella coco is great online.

Your local library might have a learn to crochet book?

Happy hooker? But I think video or online tutorials are best. Added to the ones above, Lucy at Attic24 does clear tutorials for her patterns once you have the main stitches sussed.

I like the DK one. I found it very easy to follow, and preferred the diagrams to watching at odd angles in YouTube videos.

I swear by Jan Eaton if you want a book. You might need to top it up with a bit of online if her instructions don't make sense (although they did for me) but I like the fact you can work your way through a series of small squares to practice the different techniques.

I learnt the basics from Crochet Unravelled

You tube is great. Stop, rewind, stop rewind is the best way

If learning from You Tube remember:her to check each video for whether they are using U.K. or US terms. It's less of a problem with a book as you only need to check once.

No idea what the random "her" is there!

I got this one from Aldi a while ago. It has really clear illustrations. I prefer a book to Youtube videos.

It took me ages to get the hang of crochet, but once you've learnt it is quite easy.

Good luck Flowers
