Advice sought from dressmakers, please.

I have zip-front hoodie that I love, but it was very cheaply made. The hood has been sewn straight onto the body, with no tape or other reinforcement, not even a lapped seam.

Every time I put it on, or a child tugs at it, some of the stitches burst. I've oversewn it using the jersey stitch on my machine, which gives the seam a bit of stretch. Unfortunately, now the stitches are holding but the fabric is tearing.

How can I reinforce it?

A problem is that I cannot tolerate anything rough on the back of my neck. This includes polyester satin ribbon, which may feel sleekly smooth on the reel, but rucks up into nasty points when sewn.

One pic is the seam, the other is the same seam held up to the light to shoe the little holes that are developing.

Reinforce with another piece of jersey? Pinch some from underneath a pocket if there is one, otherwise take it to a fabric shop and feel lots of fabric until you find a good match. Depending on whether you can tolerate the texture, you could test strengthening a sample piece of fabric with interfacing.

Could you reinforce it with a decorative patch or strip of tape on the outside? Make a feature of it? With the hood down, it wouldn't show at all
