Can anyone give me some advice on making my own clothes?

I currently make a lot of my own jewellery, beaded things mainly (its easier!) and would like to progress this to clothes.

I have no knowledge of pattern cutting or anything like that, or even drawing.. I can sew, and have a machine.
I have made a few items in the past, skirts mainly but very, very basic stuff. I'd like to make vests and miniskirts mainly, but ideally also dresses.
Like - topshop/warehouse/oasis style clothing, not frumpy or anything like that. Initially just for me but i am thinking of starting a small business, if i am any good!

Does anyone have any advice on how to do this? Or where I can get patterns etc?
Its mainly cotton fabric i'd be using, not knitting or anything like that.

I know this is asking a lot but i'd really like to get into this and cant afford to go to college!

Thanks

why don't either of you sign up for a dress making nightclass course.
Local schools or colleges often do them and they're not too dear.
You go with a pattern and get help with making it.
Would give you the basics at least.
My friend made a ball gown

Agree, evening classes are quite good and not expensive. I went to one on dressmaking (admittedly a decade ago) and I think it was £17 for six months.

I work full time and have a 2 year old son. I cant really get babysitters very easily in the evenings, as I use up most resources during the day!

I also cant really afford to pay babysitters and pay for nightclass. I know it doesn't sound like much but its the usual story - single parent, living very close to the edge of my means.

I was hoing I could do it from home, at nigths when son is sleeping. Hopefully through the internet, maybe just some tips and advice as I am a fast learner and as i say, have knowledge of using sewing machines and fabrics.

Thank you though

You could try your local library for books on how to dressmake - or local charity shops, freecycle etc

If you have a local shop where you can pick up a pattern of an item you like (top, dress etc) you 'll then be a ble to study the paper pattern, even copy it onto paper and use it is a template if you want to alter it
