I am looking for yarn to knit an aran jumper for someone. She wants: soft, machine washable and anti pilling. Not too worried about the price; can anyone help?

This website has a huge selection of wool at reasonable prices, quick and reliable delivery. There’s also always a code in the latest knitting and crochet magazines giving 10% off. Not heard of the website recommended by the previous poster but checked the price of one of the yarns I use lettlopi and it was £3.90 per ball as opposed to £2.99 on Woolwarehouse.
For recommendations for wool to knit an Aran jumper, I would go to www.ravelry.com , it’s an online community for knitters and crocheters. You can ask the question there and check out yarns and patterns.
Drops big merino is an Aran weight yarn.
Here on mumsnet, there’s a community of knitters who knit blankets for charity, and they have a list of recommended yarns for their blankets based on good quality yarns that wash well.

Hobbycraft WI aran is nice, and usually on 3 for 2 too. Or stylecraft special.

This is a list of the yarns woolly hugs recommend for their blankets. They are all dk weight though and you might want Aran weight but it might give you an idea of makes that wash well.

Have a look at Hayfield Bonus Aran on wool warehouse which comes in 400g balls. I’m knitting with it at the moment and it’s coming up nice and soft.
