Die cutting help

Hi ladies, I’m new to mumsnet and die cutting, having recently just bought a secondhand Grand Calibur machine and some cute bee-themed dies. I saw some photos of cards made with the same dies but it looks like they have layered the dies so that the cut out areas are a different colour (see here: www.thecraftblog.com/inspiration/january-atc-anything-goes-(1)
For example, the beehive die cut would just be the gold section, not the pink. At first I thought perhaps they used the die to emboss the pink shape and overlaid the gold die cut onto it, but then I couldn’t figure out how the pink beehive was cut out - would this be by hand? 😅 if it’s that fiddly I might give that particular technique a miss 🙈

Welcome tarka. I'm more of a knitter/crocheter but I have dabbled in card making and I didn't want your post to go unanswered.

I think you might be over complicating it. It looks as if the die cut part is gold and then this has been layered on to a piece of contrasting pink card/paper and then this is trimmed round the outside of both pieces with scissors.

Thanks so much for the welcome and the reply, WoollybacksWife! I do have a habit of over complicating things 😆 Thanks for looking!
