Crochet blanket pattern needed

My 8 year old has requested a crocheted blanket made from Schachenmayr Bravo Color Rio. It is a variegated yarn with quick colour changes (hopefully I've attached a pic) and I'm struggling to find a stitch which looks good. I've not been crocheting long so any advice or pattern recommendations would be great

TIA Grin

If I were you I'd do an internet search for an easy ripple pattern IMO the ripple effect complements the variegated yarn. HTH

Oooh @JayeAshe I hadn't thought of a ripple, thank you. I'd bought some yarn to do a Christmas striped theme ripple blanket and I was going to follow Bella Coco's video so I could do it for this one instead.

So far I've done testers of c2c, treble crochet stripes, bean stitch and a pattern with a US single crochet followed by three double crochets in each gap. I've been doing a lot of experimenting Grin

Thanks again!

I'd do a corner to corner pattern with variegated yarn

Thanks @tizwozliz. I have tried a tester of corner 2 corner and I felt it looked a bit busy because of how quick the colour changes. Do you think it will look better if I persisted with it and it was bigger?

Suggest attic24 for simple comprehensive ripple pattern (with photo tutorial)

I did a ripple blanket with a cream yarn and a variegated yarn and it looked really good.

I followed Attic24's pattern and once I started, it was easy to do the rows without a pattern.

Thank you @DeliriousPenguin and @MrsPnut . I do like attic24 so will check that out Grin

I went up to take a photo of it. I’ve made loads of ripple blankets since, the first two rows are the hardest but after that it’s pretty easy.

I’d go on Ravelry and look up the yarn you have to see what other people have made with it. That approach really helps me decide on a pattern.

I also love attic24, I’ve made lots of her blankets.

A star blanket maybe? I find 5 point stars easy enough and require minimal counting too

I personally dislike C2C but I agree that it'd look a bit busy with such short colour changes
