Crochet help please

I’m a new crochetter, this is supposed to be a beginners pattern!
Please see photo below. Is the pattern wrong or am I doing it wrong?
So Rnd 1 and 2 1dc and 2dc every other stitch) make sense 18 sts
Then Rnd 3 says 2 dc but if I do that in all of the 18 sts I won’t have 24 I’ll have 36. Hope that makes sense so can someone please help?

Round 3 means do 2 stitches with 1 DC in each, then one stitch with 2 DC in it.

Does that make sense? So

DC, DC, 2dc, then repeat

How can 2dc, 2dc = 1dc, 1dc and 2dc. Makes absolutely no sense to me think I might just give up now!

You do 2 dc in separate stitches then 2 in one stitch, so 1 dc, 1 dc, 2 dc repeat hope that makes sense!

It's not written very well I must say!

It’s 2dc then 2dc in one stitch, so you’re going to do:
1dc in the first stitch, 1dc in the second stitch, 2dc in the third stitch
And you’re going to do that six times in total to end up with 24 stitches

This is the foundation for pretty much all circles done in crochet so I think some designers get a bit lazy when writing it out.

Round 3 start you have 18
So 2dc then next stitch 2dc
1 -make 1dc
2- make 1dc
3- make 2dc
4-make 1dc
5-make 1dc
6-make 2dc
7-make 1dc
8-make 1dc
9-make 2dc
10-make 1dc
11-make 1dc
12-make 2dc
13-make 1dc
14-make 1dc
15-make 2dc
16-make 1dc
17-make 1dc
18-make 2dc is 24 ;)
Sometimes I have write them out to workout too. Don’t give up

You turn three stitches into four stitches for every repeat.

1st stitch - D.C.
2nd stitch - D.C.
3rd stitch - 2 D.C. into 1 stitch.

On the next grow you will be turning 4 stitches into 5 and so on.

It says 2dc, 2dc in next stitch.

When it says that the 2dc before the comma means do 2 lots of 1dc, then the bit after the comma is read as "2dc in the next stitch" which is what it always says if they are in one stitch. So if it doesn't say "in the next stitch", each stitch is worked into separate stitches from the previous round.

The next round is 3dc, 2dc in next stitch. So you'll do 3dc worked into separate stitches, then 2 DC into one stitch, then repeat.

It is confusing to start with. Stick with it, keep asking when you get confused and you'll get used to how it's phrased
