What are these feet thingies for on my sewing machine?

The last one was on it already so assume that's just the standard one. But what do I use the others for?

And is one better than the others to stitch the edges of aida and evenweave to stop it fraying?

I am hopeless, can't find the manual and can't see it online but I only looked for. 2 minutes then thought 'fuck it I'll just ask mn'!

I still don't know how to use the wee dial thingy that has different stitches, or the wee slider thingies that say length and width. Blush. THIS MACHINE WILL NOT BEST ME.

Does this help?

CuntyMcFuckerson · 31/08/2018 12:37

No.

Maybe.

One, maybe two sort of match.

Thanks for looking for me!

L-R standard straight stitch. Maybe a zip foot? Plastic zig zag and metal zig zag? Just occurred to me how glad I am my machine tells me which lettered foot to use.

Aph413 · 31/08/2018 12:43

I'd use the far right one and zig zag over the aida though

Second is for zips, not too sure about the others but I suspect one might be for fluffier fabrics. Standard one on the right should work fine for what you're doing.

You probably want zig zag stitch (dial) with 2 or 3 on both sliders.

They are for different cloth and threads.

The one on the far right is for zig zag, that's why there is a wide opening so the needle can move.

I think 2nd from left is for hems.

Don't you have a user guide?

CuntyMcFuckerson · 31/08/2018 13:03

I'll stick with the far right one then! Thanks, folks.

Sashh, no I've lost it and can't find it online. Its pretty old so probably been 40 different ones out since I bought mine!

The second from left is an edging foot - line it up against your evenweave and use an overcasting stitch - or a zigzag - to reduce fraying.

The see-through one is a satin stitch foot, for wide zigzagging that's very close together. You probably won't use that much.

Left is for straight stitch and right is general purpose as you thought.

DameFanny · 31/08/2018 15:31

Damn, yes, previous poster was right, second left is zip not overcast. Don't use it with a zigzag you'll break your needle. Just line up either of the ones on the right so they're half off the edge and use a wide zigzag to bind the edges
