Cross Stitch Thread Advice Required.

I'm a keen crocheter but have decided to have a go at cross stitch.

For a very basic starter I'm planning on doing this pretty daisy design from Lucy at Attic 24.

I've got the hoop and canvas ordered but I'm bamboozled about what cross stitch thread I should use.

I've seen this lovely yellow at hobbycraft but when i search Eby for colour 742 i seem to be presented with a totally different shade of yellow - as seen here!!!!.

What thread would you recommend and where is the best place to purchase from?

Also do I need a special needle or will a wide-eyed sewing needle suffice?

All advice welcome!

Hey,
You need to get yourself a cross stitch needle. The gold plated ones are nice and glide through the fabric.
Threadwise if it’s an old chart the thread numbers may of changed. You can get conversion charts for well known brands.
If you are a beginner I suggest buying yourself a kit - everything is included.

Thank you - I will try a kit but, for the moment, I've placed an order at Hobbycraft for some Aida 14, a gold plated needle (as you suggested) and some DMC Mouline thread in several colours.

I absolutely love Lucy's daisy design so I will give it a go and post in a week or two when I've hopefully completed it.
