Summer childrens craft ideas

This summer another mum and I are swapping childcare. I'll have her 2 with my 2, all girls 6 to 8yrs old for a few days.
I have a few ideas of outings as there are lots of free activities in our summer for children.
However I want a few back up ideas of crafty activities lined up for rainy days and change in pace after busy morning, or if they are winding each other up etc.

Any suggestions?
I'm happy to buy a few bits and pieces but don't want to spend too much to save tgat for ice creams on outings ;)

Oh and we've done the painting/hiding rocks thing a few times so although we love it, don't want to do that again.

Freeze some toys (such as plastic animals) and have the girls try to break the toys out by spraying with water pistols or digging with spoons…
Thread some Cheerios onto pieces string and tie the pieces horizontally between the backs of two chairs. Have the girls race to eat all the Cheerios from the string without using their hands.

These articulated snakes are made with paddle pop sticks and press studs so you can mix and match the body segment or have moveable parts.

How about things like this that you can make out of popsicle sticks?
