Needle felters beginner help? Washing?

I want to give it a go needle felting embellishments onto some baby garments I knit/crochet

Will it hold up to being washed? Or do you need to sew?

I suspect it might not wash well in a machine, especially as baby things will need a lot of washing!

I don’t know for sure though. I needlefelted decoration into my craft apron and it seems kind of delicate. I wonder if the wool might shrink too.
