What can I use as a needle felt base?

Any needle filters out there, if you're making a large-ish 3D thing, what do you use for the inside to save on felting wool?

Hi I've done a little bit of needle felting and have used polystyrene balls and shapes for the middle.

Do you mean the armature (skeleton)? That's normally wire, with pipe cleaners wound round, then core wool on top to build the shape, with small amounts of the coloured wool you're using to create the look of it after that.

You can use polyester batting, I haven't tried this yet. Or search for core wool on Amazon then use that to create the body of whatever you're making and put a layer of the nice coloured stuff on top
