I realised today that despite a good start, ds (3.5) cannot draw or colour in, at all

Why do you need to help him along?

DD has only really just got the concept of colouring in. She has neither the patience, or the aptitude - she cant decide whether she is left or right handed at the moment.....

She is 4.

Although she did an ACE rainbow yesterday!

She much prefers sticking and glueing stuff.
Do you do this with DS? Playdough etc?

to bring my ds on (who sounds the same btw), I sat next to him, I drew him, he drew me. I gave him a body a head 2 eyes nose smile arms legs and spiky hair. He gave me head eyes smile and one leg!!
I asked him does mummy have 1 leg or 2, he drew another. Where are my arms I asked? (waving them about in front of him silly) He drew 2 arms. I asked him does mummy have anything else? He drew a nose and a belly button.
We did this a couple of times and each time he remembered and noticed something else.
I made it funny for him by saying things like how will mummy hear with no ears?
Failing that, don't worry he'll get it eventually!

My ds2 (5 and a half) still doesn't really draw or colour much. Not at all out of school in fact. His drawings are still very basic. Nothing to worry about though.

beckybrastraps · 09/05/2007 23:05

Perhaps he's just not that way inclined?

Ds is nearly 6 and he is still rubbish at this sort of thing. He couldn't give a stuff whether he is inside the lines or not. He doesn't like drawing or painting or anything like that. He'd rather ride his bike...

DD drew some pictures at the IL's yesterday, and MIL had put family names against them.

I was a bit taken a back - all the faces seemed to be very wide, with 2 fangs at the bottom and earrings on one side.

Then DD pointed out that they werent faces, they were cars....from the perspective of a toddler of course (the fangs were wheels, the eyes were the headlights, looking at the car head on......)
