crochet beginner!

i have purchased a 4mm hook and have double yarn, i have successfully made a chain but am struggling to make the single crochet? Any tips cannot seem to find the chain spaces on my yarn. thanks

you need to make sure the chain is loose enough. It takes some practice. Bonny Barker (Bonny Bay Crochet) does good easy to follow videos on you tube.
