I have found some lovely fabric which I would like to use for a blind for DC's bedroom. For various reasons a blackout roller blind would work best, rather than roman blind or curtains.
I found a company that can make blackout roller blinds from any fabric, but sadly the quote has come in at just over £180 for a small blind, so that is a non-starter.
I can buy a basic plain blackout roller blind for about £15 and the fabric itself would cost around £15. The question is, would it be possible to put them together and have it not look a total mess? Has anyone ever done this?
I've found tutorials on youtube involving glueing around the edges of the blind and sticking fabric over, but I have my doubts about the sides/corners - they showed the fabric being folded over and glued to the back of the blind, but as this isn't very thin fabric I imagine it could get too bulky at the sides once it's rolled up.
I have a fabric roller blind in the house which has no finished edge, but it is stiffened, and that seems to stop it from fraying. Would something similar work here?
Also not sure if the two layers of fabric are not stuck fully together, would they stay flat when rolled and unrolled? As the outer layer would be very slightly longer, if that makes sense.
If anyone can talk me through this it would be much appreciated!
