Can someone please take a look at my yarn selection?

I would like to crochet a blanket for my mum. I am going to use the solid granny square from the Attic 24 website (see pic from the tutorial). Mum loves pinks and purples, hence the colour choice, but she also loves bright rainbow colours. I'm not sure if they work together or if I should be going for a different choice. Also if I need the cream in the mix.
Any suggestions/advice gratefully received, thanks.

That's a lovely colour selection. I would definitely keep the cream, a little bit of contrast helps to bring out the other colours. I would possibly consider adding a blue as well, or another darker colour.

BluebellTheDonkey · 21/02/2018 21:02

Ooh hadn't thought of a blue! Thanks for your speedy reply. I was thinking the same about the cream, I'll keep that in there.

I wouldn’t use the pomegranate with the other colours as from the picture it looks like it is an orange base red rather than blue base like the others.

Are you on the Facebook group for Attic 24 projects? Some of the posters there have sample pegs of all the stylecraft special colours and might be happy to take a photo of them together for you. It’s called Attic24 moorland and more.

BluebellTheDonkey · 21/02/2018 21:08

Ah yes I see what you mean about the pomegranate. I have just joined the facebook group so I will ask on there, great idea. Thank you.

I have taken out the pomegranate and added bluebell, I think it looks better.

I agree, I think that looks lovely!

diamantegal · 23/02/2018 21:52

I would use the cream as the joining colour and maybe border, rather the squares. But all personal taste!

MollyHuaCha · 24/02/2018 21:42

Yes, I agree. I think it needs a lot of cream to contrast your other colours.

Can you update with your progress when you've made the first few squares?

It's going to be so lovely.

Just popped back to this thread and seen the replies. OK, confession time, in the end I ordered a completely different packBlush I thought long and hard and decided mum would really really love a bright rainbow blanket. I was looking around her lounge and just felt it would fit in better.
So, I am waiting for the pack to arrive, it has these colours:
Cream x 2, Pomegranate, Shrimp, Apricot, Saffron, Citron, Spring Green, Aspen, Turquoise, Sherbet, Lavendar, Wisteria, Fondant, Magenta
I happen to have a ball of magenta so am madly crocheting squares in that while I'm waiting. Bit of pressure as her birthday is middle of April and am not sure if I'll get it done, but am planning to crochet in any spare minutes inbetween work, kids, house etc!
Will update if anyone is interested.
Thanks for the advice though, much appreciated.

It will certainly be more fun to crochet! When you are doing a lot in the same tones it can get rather wearing...

SallyDog · 13/03/2018 19:10

Please do keep updating! I'm intrigued to see all the colours together Smile

BluebellTheDonkey · 14/03/2018 06:30

Hi @SallyDog just seen your reply! I am crocheting like a woman possessed to try and get the blanket finished by mum's birthday in April. I need 18 squares of each colour and have completed 6 colours so far. I'll post a pic later on when I get back from work - thanks for your interest Smile

I bet she will be delighted Smile!

BluebellTheDonkey · 14/03/2018 16:06

Thank you! These are the colours I have done so far - fondant, shrimp, magenta, turquoise, spring green, wisteria, and am half way through pomegranate.
Left to go are aspen, saffron, lavender, apricot, sherbert and citron.
Very bright and zingy, my mum loves these sort of coloursSmile

They are fab! I'm going to have to buy some shrimp and turquoise - they look especially lovely together Grin

RubyLennoxExists · 16/03/2018 11:06

That looks gorgeous Bluebell

BluebellTheDonkey · 16/03/2018 20:21

Thank you both.
Don't suppose anyone knows if I need to block the squares before joining them? And any foolproof joining techniques?
(Complete novice hereGrin)

Floopbloop · 16/03/2018 20:27

I wouldn't block Stylecraft Special DK, as it's 100% acrylic you can only steam block it anyway and run the risk of ruining it. Ive made quite a few blankets using it and don't block.
I've used some joining tutorials on The Patchwork Heart before.

TheWoollybacksWife · 16/03/2018 20:33

There's a lovely join that one of the Woolly Huggers linked to. I think it was on the Chernobyl thread in the Woolly Hugs topic and would have been last weekend or thereabouts. I'll see if I can find it and repost the link.

TheWoollybacksWife · 16/03/2018 20:36

Here - it's call the continuous flat braid join. It was actually the beginning of the month. Time flies Grin

BluebellTheDonkey · 16/03/2018 21:12

Oh thank you so much! Really appreciate the advice and link. I will have a look now.

OnTopOfSpaghetti · 02/04/2018 22:19

Hi @SallyDog its me OP with a name change! Thanks for remembering, I am touchedSmile I have another thread about adding a border where you can see my progress. I am getting there, need it done by the 22nd. I am also trying to decorate my DS bedroom so it's all a bit hectic! Will try and link the other thread.

OnTopOfSpaghetti · 02/04/2018 22:23

Sorry I can't work out how to link to the other thread but it is in Arts and Crafts and called Border for solid granny square blanketSmile
