Baby blanket colour help

Hello. Newish knitter here - would like to knit a baby blanket for a friend's baby - would like to stick to neutral colour and have found a light cream / almost white wool that I like. Question is, would I be mad to use such a light colour? Is it just going to end up all grubby looking? Is there anything I should do to keep it looking good while I am knitting it or should I stick to silvery grey colour? Have never knitted a blanket before nor used light colours so interested in views from more experienced knitters! Thanks!

I received a beautiful neutral baby blanket in a gorgeous mint green with white detailing. Maybe team it up with a colour such as orange, lemon or green.

Ah I have a lovely mint green colour too which goes great with the grey but the pattern is not really one that needs two colours IYSWIM? I think it would look best all the one colour as there is quite a bit of detailing in the patten (some 'simple' cabling apparently...a bit scared of that!) hence why I thought cream/off white would be nice. I'm just a bit nervous its going to look a bit grubby by the time I finish it.

It sounds beautiful and I think you’ll be fine. I had a cream blanket also when ds was smaller and it didn’t get grubby. I would go for it. Me and dh were so grateful to receive the lovely gifts we did for our baby and I’m sure the parents you’re giving the blanket to will be aswell. You can never have too many baby blankets and I would do with light cream. I think that’ll look so much prettier than grey.

They can choose to use your lovely cream blanket in the house only, and use less precious blankets for out and about. That's what I did with the lovely pale yellow blanket a friend knitted for my DD.

Cream will be lovely. I had white pram and cot blankets that didn't get grubby. Admittedly, my DS was an odd child who never vomited or poonamied so maybe I was just lucky.

I crocheted a mint green blanket for my dd (didn't know gender until she was born). She's 10. We still use it for teddies etc although she is too cool to let anyone know .
Plenty of poonamis and vomit fests when she was little. Napisan saved us on more than one occasion.
Your friend will be thrilled. Or should be.

When you knit the blanket, rub a little baby powder on your hands, it absorbs any moisture and keeps the yarn smooth and clean - it also makes the finished blanket smell lovely
