Putting a name on a crocheted blanket

I obviously didn't think this through...! I've made a blanket with a strip of DC(UK) that I'd like to put the baby's name on. Trouble is, I have no idea how would be best to do this! I don't want it to show on the back. Should I cut the letters out of felt? Crochet the letters & sew them on? Embroider it somehow? Also, should I wash the blanket before putting the name on, or after?

Someone tell me what to do?! I always do this - I've spent the best part of 6 months working on this & now it's just the last bits & I need it for a Christmas present I'm panicking & being indecisive!

What a lovely gift. I'm afraid I'm still quite a beginner, hopefully someone can help you but if not pop on to one of the Woolly Hugs threads. There are some very talented and experienced crafters there who will probably know, and they're very lovely too!

I would crochet the letters separately and sew them on. There are patterns on the web like this

Just in case you ever decide to do another similar project Grin you can crochet bobbles as you go that form letters like these on Ravelry

We buy buttons from Funky Lime - would that be any good?
