sock knitting supplies

Have been promising myself to learn to knit socks for years. I have lots of circular needles, but I am thinking I will need double ended needles?

I have a voucher for Amazon which I am going to use to treat myself to sock yarn, but what else so I need to put on my shopping list to get myself started?

You can use either dpns or circs (magic loop method) for socks. Other than that, if you knit already you should have everything you need.

I would start by finding a pattern you would like to try (Ravelry is good for this) and see what you need for that.

Good luck!

I use KnitPro symfonie dpns. I use 2.5mm and have several sets as they do very occasionally get broken/snaggy.

My basic sock kit is:
Little scissors
Stitch markers
Safety pin (I use it for row counting)
Darning needle for grafting and sewing in ends
Needle gauge
Small tape measure
Sock blockers (not essential)
Basic sock pattern that I can adapt (it's an ancient opal pattern leaflet)

If you don't already have a pattern, look for Winwick mum. Her basic sock pattern is dead easy to follow, and can be done magic loop on circs, one by one on mini-circs, or on dpns.
