I need help........Reconstrusting a door curtain?

I have a fab door curtain - it's plastic flowers and circles connected by very fine wire/keyring type things

The children are pulling the flowers and the wire is opening and it falls apart

What can I use to replace the wire to make it a bit stronger?

I wondered about fishing line - but I would have to knot it round each piece of plastic - & that seems so much effort

Any ideas

(must be Uber safe btw as I childmind)

They are connected by little individual key rings made out of fine wire

It is for them to play with/interqact with

how about ribbon? or embroidery thread?

I though ribbon at first - but I think it will go manky
