Ideally with minimal preparation?

Would it be different for an ikea veneered drawers?

It's not that I am lazy....actually it is!!

I wants to do a nice new bedroom for DD as she struggled with us selling her childhood home (despite having moved out a while ago) & I can't afford to spend a fortune or take loads of time (she will be home for halfterm

Someone will probably know more, but I've just painted a cabinet using Rustoleum chalk paint , easy enough to use, no prep needed. Not 100% finish i was after but nice enough.next time I'm planning to use General Finishes Milk Paint, have read good reviews about that.
If you do use Rustoleum, add 10% water to the paint it will leave less brush marks (apparently! I didn't do it, read about it after)

Also for large areas it's better to use a roller, to get a smoother finish.
Ikea veneer should be the same/ no prep.

(With wood there is a chance it wil bleed through)

Sorry I should have said the Pine has some sort of factory finish....not quite matt not really varnish

Are they expensive paints?

Any ideas what I can put on the top of the chests of drawers and bedside cabinets to give a more sophisticated look

I'm adding crystal handles and the colour scheme is purple/grey
