I love scrapbooking. I started about a year ago when my daughter was born. It can be a bit overwhelming to start. You don't know how to start and so on. The way I started was by buying a scrapbooking kit at www.qvcuk.com It has all the bits and pieces for you. words, frames, pages, scrapbook. really easy to do and loads of fun.
Just buy the stuff bit by bit. QVC is really cheap.

Someone posted a link where you could print your own paper. You would need to either check your printer paper is acid free (there's a pen you can buy to do this!) or make sure the printed paper isn't actually touching your photo. The acid in the paper can damage photos over time. This acid free thing goes for anything that will be in contact with the photos. "Proper" scrapbook stuff usually says it's acid free (and lignum free which is the stuff that makes paper go yellow with age).

Um... I guess you start with a fave photo and go from there. Layouts don't have to have loads of fancy twiddly bits and stuff.

Some suppliers here

Print your own paper

Personally I don't like kits as a lot of the stuff is too fancy for me. I'm a plain kind of scrapbooker Mind you, I only started this year when the A&C lot on Mumsnet had a "one colour" craft challenge. I've started a 8x8 book of the 3 Dragonets' birthdays, one page per birthday.

Hello

Wlcome to the A&C section

Scrapbooking is as cheap or as expensive as you make it, but the temptation to buy more is always there! Start with one of the many magazines or a look at the galleries somewhere like docrafts, modern scrapbooking websites.

Good luck!

SoupDragon · 10/04/2007 11:00

I was looking at one of the websites in my A&C links and now I somehow have £16 worth of stuff in my basket...

PeachyChocolateEClair · 10/04/2007 11:08

yeah i did that yesterday Soupie LOL- I have a list of about 8 cards to do, when the cost got to £30 I was hmmm, best reduce that shapish! (was about £15 in the end)

jilly beans scrapyard is a big favourite at the moment.

SoupDragon · 10/04/2007 11:20

Artbase is fab, but when you first go there their website looks uninspiring. I reckon if they jazzed it up they'd do a lot better.

SoupDragon · 10/04/2007 14:06

They'd do better if it wasn't arranged by manufacturer too. I can't be ar$ed to search through 14 different paper manufacturers for inspiration, I want them all at once.

PeachyChocolateEClair · 10/04/2007 21:29

mmm, agree (mumbling whilst muching olives lol). never get why they do that- I ike ones searchable by theme and colour. I can spend a small fortune on decent papers too, so like to be able to find ones that make me go [wow]. Apart from basic grey, I ahve no idea if theya re by doodlebugs junkits or seven blinkin gypsies.

SoupDragon · 11/04/2007 09:21

That's why Ilike things like that paper bundle Jillybeans had. You don't need to know who makes the stuff.

SoupDragon · 11/04/2007 09:21

I think I might email Artbase and suggest they revamp their site rather than whine about it here

PeachyChocolateEClair · 11/04/2007 18:12

Oh I dunno, look at it this way: anyone who see's this will have pivked up that in fact its worth it when you find your way around
