Is it easy to make vinyl stickers without a machine?

I'm starting a little Etsy shop and have an idea for a product that would involve printing images onto transparent vinyl/acetate then sticking onto glass. Is this straightforward to do just using a normal printer, or would I really need a specialist machine to do it?
I'm a bit of a beginner so the info online is all a bit overwhelming.

It is very difficult to do this without a machine, however with the large volume of items available using this technique unless you are doing geometric shapes. I would suggest that you need to make sure your idea is unique otherwise you will be lost in the crowd.

a cutting machine can be an expensive investment if you are just starting.
