Has anyone turned their candle making hobby into a business?

I love making candles. And usually make as gifts for family and friends/colleagues. Was wondering has anyone turned their hobby into a business. How did you find it?

I was thinking about maybe selling on-line or approach local shops and see if they'd be interested selling candles also craft fairs is another option.

Would be interested in hearing others experiences.

Thanks.

Hi I have managed to turn it into a business I started about 3.5 years ago. I started at craft markets, I sell online , and am in a shop. I find a lot of my customers are on instagram . It's been hard but rewarding at times felt like giving up as candle making is almost a science , getting the right wick, wax , fragrance combo right takes a while. The biggest challenge I have found is that everyone has a different sense of smell and are burning candles in a different
Size room so they will smell different for different customers depending on what they are used to burning. I also use soy wax which is more difficult to get a strong scent throw from. If you can go on a candle making workshop near you I would recommend one if you go to craftcourses.com they may have one near you. I now run.my own candle making workshops up in Scotland as well as online. Good luck with it. Smile

TakingTheWick, thank you for your reply. It's been very helpful, I do appreciate it. I have been looking into local workshops and there's one coming up in a couple weeks. I think I will definitely go ahead a book myself on. I do enjoy candle making and would really like to turn it into a business.

You've inspired me to follow through! Smile

Go for it it's very therapeutic as well and I just found out today that I have been shortlisted for an award in Stylist magazine so anything is possible
