Wool and hook advise for absolute beginner.

I want to learn to crochet. I would like to attempt granny squares that I can join to make a blanket/throw. Ideally it would be thick and chunky as well as quick growing. Wink Can a lovely crocheter advise on which wool weight and sized hook can help me give this a go? Thanks.

I'd suggest DK yarn with a size 4 hook.

I crochet a lot and I find thicker yarns can be harder to work with and make my hands ache.

DK will grow fairly quickly and has a nice weight to it.

Thank you for replying. I'll get my supplies sorted and attempt it.

I agree. Something like Stylecraft Special DK and a 4mm hook. The yarn is good value for money and comes in more colours than you could ever need!

Attic24 and Little Tin Bird are great for beginner instructions

Look at Bella coco YouTube videos that's how I learnt.

Tip flip you granny square after every row it'll keep it square

Light coloured yarn at first as stitches are easier to see. Style craft special is nice and inexpensive.
