Hemming a jersey skirt

I've bought a jersey pencil skirt but it needs taking up.

What sort of stitch do I need to cope with the stretch? I'm thinking maybe a zig zag?
I don't have an over locker, just an old Elna. :)

You mean for the hem? I'd do it by hand. I've tried machine-sewing visible edges and hems on jersey, and not made that great of a job of it, to be honest - but that could be the point at which my sewing skills fall down.

You could try a twin needle (you can buy these as a separate attachment and they are available for various fabrics including jersey/stretch). I've done twin needle hems on knit fabrics and it gives a neat finish but I guess it would depend on the fabric

Time40 how do you sew it by hand? I'm keen to try on a couple of uniqlo jersey lounge dresses.
