Vintage sewing and crafty bits and bobs

Does anyone else love vintage sewing boxes or craft items? I inherited a vintage sewing box after my Nan passed away earlier this year and I've just been looking through it. I love a rummage through old sewing and knitting bits and bobs in charity shops and antique/vintage centres, the kind where you get lots of little stalls mostly filled with tat and the occasional treasure.

Anyone else? I'd love to see some pics.

I have my gran's old sewing box ( and singer sewing machine) and have started my own button tin..used to love rummaging through hers as a kid

I've started my own button tin as well. It's a liquorice allsorts one and mostly has modern ones in, with a few vintage buttons I've picked up over the years. I was always fascinated by my mum's button box, which originally belonged to her grandmother, especially the glass buttons and one Victorian boot button.

Oh there's a shop near me you'd love! All vintage but charity shop prices. There's a whole section of old buttons, trims, laces, needles and hooks etc....Also have inherited some from my Nan. Will try to get pics later....

Here's my recent-ish haberdashery find in a local charity shop. I've also got some vintage wool somewhere, looks like its from the 30s or 40s, I'm reluctant to use it, its almost antique!

Fantastic shop Secret, a bit far away for me though. Here's one of my favourite places for vintage crafty bits:

Last year I bought this gorgeous cigar box filled with thread, buttons, etc. and a sweet little needle case for about £4.

I know what you mean about being reluctant to use items sskk, sometimes things are too precious to use, and it can be more fun planning projects than actually making things.

A charity shop near me has a big plastic tub filled with buttons, 10p per button. I think a lot of them are cut off the clothes they throw out but occasionally they have buttons donated & put them in. A few months ago I was rummaging and started to find quite a few beautiful glass buttons, very old ones I think and some were quite ornate. They must have come from someone's very old button box. I ended up spending about £5 in the end over several visits. Most are clear glass with patterns or flowers in the design - probably Czech glass I think? I do intend to use them but am a bit worried about how they'd survive in the washing machine?

My heart leaps when I go to my favourite charity shop and I find a tin that rattles with buttons and other Sewing paraphernalia :)
