knitting: can't do intarsia in the round

or am i wrong? so i decided to knit my kaffe fassett jersey in the round but it's intarsia, so that means that the thread will always be on the wrong side iyswim? arghghg because i've already done the ribbing in twisted k2p2. took absolute AGES. HELP!!

Umm no, no-one can as far as I know. Sorry- I learned the hard way too, and I did try but I honestly can't see how to do it unless you keep the thread running through the back fairisle-style all the way through (=nightmare).

You can do small intarsia motifs in the round, e.g. ones less than five stitches across.

How is twisted k2p2?

sigh ok, well i know now. no, don't want to do it fairisle - don't have enough thread and don't want the loops in the back...

You could knit the intarsia bits flat, iyswim, wrapping the edges?

Well, I'm just imagining how to do it, I haven't tried it, but surely you could just knit each section separately, flat, effectively, and then just twist the yarn together before knitting another row in each colour, iyswim. (This is much better than my original plan, in which you had to work out how much yarn it would take to knit each row, pretty much, as you went along ... that would do wonders for tension, I think.)

ah i see. well i think theoretically it's possible. it would be a hell of a job though, as the sections vary between 1 and 8 stitches each and there are a lot of changes.

this is the sweater. bearing in mind the pattern has stated intarsia, and i don't have enough wool to do fairisle (which i think would have been easier).

do you think i should bite the bullet, get extra wool and do it in fairilse, in the round?

I think that is your only option, if you want to do this sweater and not frog what you've done. The sweater will be a lot thicker, though ...

yes it will, which is a shame. and there are some blocks of colour which are rather large. i could knit it in a combination but i think that would look odd with the different thicknesses.

I think if it's your first go at fairisle, it may be too much. Maybe make the sweater flat, instead? (tbh, the armpits are a worry with knitting sweaters in the round, ime)

yes, maybe you're right. i'll keep things simple on this one. (simple - splutter)

I don't think you need to waste all the ribbing, do you? Just start knitting backwards and forwards on the circular needles from now on. Looking at that jumper I definitely wouldn't do it fairisle style, I think it would end up very bulky and that would spoil the look completely. Don't despair

i unravelled it all. was rather cathartic

i've only done 3 rows in intarsia. i will carry on and do a few more and see how it goes. i've only done little bits of intarsia and fairisle. this is my first proper project. have always been too scared of multi-colours before!
